Danearys
ReplyDeleteby Laura and Keeley
As a young girl Danearys “Dany” always saw her brother as the last remaining dragon. However, as the siblings begin to grow up she is able to discover she herself has the blood of the dragon coursing through her veins. Slowly but surely she becomes wise, brave, and inspirational to those who follow. After being sold into a marriage, Dany feels worthless and insecure. Her husband, Kahl Drago, a strong warrior, is soon able to see she is not an item but a true Kahliese. Her brother does not agree with Kalh Drago’s newly found beliefs. He does not want to be ordered around by his younger sister, and seen as anything under her. As his threats grow more prominent, Dany’s courage does too. Viserys, her brother, constantly warns Dany to “not awaken the dragon”. As he becomes more enraged with power, and his so called ‘dragon’ comes out, hers does too. Dany begins to show leadership in her actions, and is no longer a coward to her towering older brother. The girl with the dragon blood learns to stand up for herself. The prediction for Dany is to accomplish great things, wherever her new queen-ship shall take her.

Game of Thrones
SANSA
Sansa Stark is a child of the Royal family Starks. Sansa is 13 years old, and is a young beautiful girl who seeks the perfect cinderella story life. Sansa has a dyer wolf named Lady. Sansa is one of those girls who is young, nieve, and wants to be that cinderella that has all the pretty clothes, and a white knight and shinning armor to pick her off her feet and take her away to a happy place.
Sansa is willing to put her family behind her ad lie to them in order to help Joffery. After the diarwolf attack she takes Jofferys side and lies to everyone she is in love with the idea of Joffery and wants nothing in life but to live happily ever after with him and marry him and be his queen. This tells us allot about her as a person and how un-loyal that she is to her family and she is willing to do bad things in order to protect Joffery.
Sansa has a sister who is very ignorant, and is actually pretty tough. Her name is Aryia, and she has Dyer wolf as well. One day Aria and a boy who was the butcher’s son were playing swords, and Joffery and Sansa both walked upon them. Joffery, who was a prince, was not happy about this and challenged the boy to fight him in way. Aryia got mad at Joffery and they go into an altercation forcing Aryia’s dyer wolf Nymeria bit the hand of the prince.
Aryia had a chance to kill the prince but did not, and ran away into the forest. When they were hiding, Aryia told her dyer wolf to run away because she knew she would be killed. Aryia was later found and both sisters were brought to the King with the prince to settle what had happened. The King asked what had happened and Arya said that the prince was lying, which he was, and asked Sansa to back her up. Sansa was supposed to marry this prince Joffery, so she lied about what happened to protect the prince instead of the dyer wolf. The king ordered Sansa’s dyer wolf to be killed, Lady. Sansa and Aryia are mad at eachother but later on Ned Stark talks to Aryria and tells him that it is important that Sansa marries this prince.
Sansa is in love with idea of marrying this prince, but is starting to see the bad side of marrying him. Sansa is discovering that the prince is actually a coward, not being able to tell the truth that Aryia actually disarmed him, and that the dyer wolf barely harmed him.
In conclusion Sansa is starting to see who joffery realize is and he is turning out to be a complete different man then she ever thought. We look forward to finding out what is going to creep up next for Sansa in The Game of Thrones.
Ned Stark is a very honorable man and has a great sense of loyalty to his family, friends and country. At times, this can be used against him and may be his weakness, like when Robert asked Ned to be the king’s hand and Ned had to obey, thus leaving his family behind. His only weakness is that he is too loyal for his own good, which can be shown when Ned says, “You must govern the north in my stead, while I run Robert’s errands.” Ned is leaving his family, knowing that he is going to a dangerous place, all for the good of the nation and his friend, the king. Through his time being the king’s hand, Ned has become more wary of people and their actions, ever since he received the letter from Jon Array’s wife saying that Jon was murdered by the Lannisters, along with the assassination attempt on Bran. Ned is a very likable character, since he does what he does for the good of the nation, while still loving his family very deeply. Ned’s future seems to be hostile, yet has the potential to be very lucrative, if Ned plays his cards right.
ReplyDeleteIn the series Game of Thrones, by George Martin, the character Bran Stark serves a very significant role as part of the Stark family. Bran is the fourth of five children in the Stark family, brother to Sansa, Arya, Robb, and Rickon. One of Brans many strengths is that he is an adventurous child. Although this may not seem like strength, it enables Bran to be fearless in stature and mature faster mentally. Bran is always excited and eager to grow up and become a more able human being, which is why he is always in admiration of what his father, Eddard, and his older brother Robb are always getting into. A great example of this was when his father told Bran he was coming with him for the execution of the man who ran away from the nights watch. “They set forth at daybreak to see a man beheaded, twenty and all, and Bran road among them, nervous with excitement.”(Martin, 13) This excitement is what allows Bran to accomplish many other extraordinary things, one of which is his tremendous ability to climb. This adventurous strength can also be one of his greatest weaknesses because it leaves him vulnerable and gets him in trouble in many aspects. One major example of this is when he was climbing the broken tower and stumbled upon an incident in which his eyes weren’t meant to be seeing between the Lannister siblings. As a result, Jamie Lannister threw Bran of the tower to leave him crippled and in a coma for quite some time. “Screaming, Bran went backward out the window into the empty air. There was nothing to grab onto.”(Martin, 85) In the coma Bran is put into as a result of his fall, another one of Bran’s strengths is depicted. Bran is able to have dreams and visions of things that are happening in the world around him while he is sleeping, without actually being there to see it firsthand. This element of Bran sort of displays his natural innocence because it once again reflects back to the injury he suffered caused by a much older and much more physically mature Jamie Lannister. It is this innocence that makes him a much more loved character, and when adding his innocence to his adventurous prowess, Bran becomes arguably the most adored character in the book.

Arya Stark
ReplyDeleteArya is the middle child of Ned and his wife, Catetlyn. Her older sister is Sansa, and she has two older brothers; Rob and Jon Snow. She is older than Bran and Rickon. Arya travels by her fathers side to King’s Landing so Ned can help assist the King. Arya takes great pride in her abilities with a sword. She is very skillful and quick on her feet. Before Arya travels to King’s Landing Jon Snow gives her a sword as a going away gift. To her, being the tom boy that she is, there could be no better gift to receive. Once she gets to King’s Landing she is eager to start practicing with her new toy. Thus, she asks the butcher boy to help her practice. When they are practicing Joffrey and Sansa catch them. Joffrey wants to hurt the boy but Arya stop him. This angers Joffrey and starts to fight Arya with his sword but before he can kill her, her dog Nymeria comes in and bites his arm aggressively giving Arya and her Direwolf time to escape. To protect Nymeria Arya sends her on her way. When Arya finally goes back to the castle, Robert demands for Sansa to tell him exactly what happened. To protect her relationship with Joffrey and still protect her sister, she says she can’t remember what happened. A strength of Arya is that she has an incredible ability to fight and shoot arrows with grace. A weakness of hers is that she can’t act like a lady or weave like the other girls and this causes her to feel like an outsider as she bickers with her sister Sansa and Septa Mordane. Arya is a strong-minded, tough to Ricken with girl who can hold her own for the most part. She is strong willed and challenges those around her. However, she does feel some sadness because she is always on the outside when it comes to her sister and the other girls. Even her looks cause her to sometimes feel like a bastard child like Jon. Arya is staying the same for the most part. The only thing thats really changed about her is her awareness. Jon has taught her and given her perspective that fairness does not exist in the world in which they live. The way Joffrey treated her and the way Sansa covered for him helped her see the true ways of the culture she is. Now she knows she has to fight that much harder if she wants something and that she has to cover her tracks to maybe pretend to get along with the other girls. Arya is a lovable character because she is so easy to relate to. At one point or another most people have felt like they were unable to fit in and that their talents went unappreciated/acknowledged. Her badass attitude gives people a reason to idolize her, given she behaves the way we all wish we had the courage to do. Something Arya says in the reading is: “If you got within a mile of battle, you’d fill your pants.” This is a classic example of Arya’s attitude and sass. She is not trying to impress the guys her age she is just trying to live the life she wants, as a warrior. Many guys aren’t even as strong, brave, or determined as Arya. Many of them are scared of fighting and appear weak as well as, frightened. But not Arya, she says what she wants, does what she wants, with whom ever she wants and is unafraid of whatever consequences might come her way. A perfect example of Arya’s expectations lies in this quotation describing the reason behind the name she chose for her Direwolf: “Arya had named her after the warrior queen of the Rhoyne, who had led her people across the narrow sea. That had been a great scandal too. (Martin 71)” This describes the kind of women Arya aspires to be.

Jon Snow is an honorable character whose path in life was basically laid out by the circumstances that he was born under. Namely, the fact that he is a bastard. When Ned Stark brought him back to Winterfell, Catelyn immediately turned her back on him. Since he was shamed from his family, he became a very independent individual. Socially separated from his brothers and sisters, at formal events, he is not allowed to sit with the royal family and is forced to sit and eat with the commoners. Even though he was treated as royalty by the village folk, he still was never recognized as a Stark. By being given the last name Snow, people knew right away that he was not a pure son of Ned. Due to the lack of connection with his family, he felt no need to stay with them, eager to join the Night’s Watch. Taking the black was an easy choice for him because he is an excellent fighter and content with not seeing his family for years on end.
ReplyDeleteAfter Bran’s fall, Catelyn tells Jon that “it should have been [him]” who fell and not her son (pg. 95). This passage is indicative of how Jon’s entire life went up to that point. Catelyn truly despised Jon because he served as a constant reminder of Ned’s unfaithfulness when he was at war. Despite this constant disapproval, Jon is able to maintain a positive outlook on life and continue to be kind to his half-siblings. In fact, he is Arya’s favorite sibling even though he isn’t her actual brother. She is similar to him because she feels she doesn’t fit in with the rest of her family and by giving her Needle, he is enabling her to more independent.
When Jon travels to the wall, he is met with contempt by the other new members of the Night’s Watch. They dislike him because he is better at fighting than them after being trained by the master of arms in Winterfell. But this does not deter Jon’s ambitious spirit, instead it motivates him to further improve himself and to become a ranger.
Jon is a very likable character because of his easy-going nature and determination to go against what society is telling him he must do because he is a bastard. He and Tyrion are very similar characters in the sense of being shunned by society due to circumstances that are out of their control, but they both are able to fight through these setbacks towards becoming a more mature person. Although it is hard to predict Jon’s future after joining the Night’s Watch, it is possible that he will have something to do with finding Benjen Stark. Also, Ghost will most likely become an even bigger part of Jon’s character, coming to his assistance more frequently. Finally, Jon might come back to Winterfell and assist Robb in his job of being the man in charge.

Tyrion is one of the main characters of “The Game of Thrones”; he is one of the Lannisters but his father and sister give him little respect because he was born a dwarf, and for the death of his mother during his birth. He only feels close to his brother Jaime because he doesnít treat him as the others. He is often called “Imp” or “half man” because of his deformity.
ReplyDeleteTyrion is very clever, educated, smart, and even though he is no warrior, he has instances where he shows great bravery. He has stated that what he lacks in size and strength he makes up for in mental acuity. “I have a realistic grasp of my own strengths and weaknesses. My mind is my weapon. My brother has his sword, King Robert has his war hammer, and I have my mind… and a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge. Thatís why I read so much, Jon Snow.” ― George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones.
His greatest strength is that he knows how to embrace his deformity or his weaknesses and help others to learn to do the same so they cannot be mocked anymore. He shows a great sympathy for the people who is not treated well, and cruelty to the people he doesnít like or his enemies. His greatest weakness is his deformity and his lack of size and strength.
I think Tyrion is a character that when reading the book you instantly like because even though he is different form every body else, he knows how to use his weaknesses to turn them in strengths. He is the most intelligent of his family; therefore he knows whatís always happening and what his siblings are up to. He knows how to help people who need it and how to defeat his enemies with only using his words. “Let me give you some advice, bastard: Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.” ― George R.R. Martin.
At first, some may say that Catelyn is the female representation of her husband (Ned Stark), and for both of them family is the most important thing. Catelyn is not a Stark by birth, but a Tully from Riverrun, and so she holds slightly more southern values and sensibilities. Catelyn cares about her own family, but the way she treats Jon Snow is deplorable (for example when she just tells him to leave). Her last words to Jon were “it should have been you.” (P95) Ned cares about his children equally, and unlike Catelyn, he acts on principles. Much like her daughter Sansa, Catelyn divides people. We see this when Bran is in a coma and she completely forgets about her other children. In the Godswood, she tells everyone she thinks bran was murdered, and that statement definitely polarizes her company. “There is no limit to Lannister pride or Lannister ambition” (P137) are the words that Catelyn chooses, and the hostile language shows her ability to divide.
